1. New Leadership

The national election was held on May 22. The results were released at 3:00 pm on Thursday by the National Election Council.

As the result, Nguyen Phu Trong will be Party General Secretary, President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan

2. Obama’s visit

Vietnam warmly welcome the U.S President during his visit in May. He advanced bilateral ties, held a town hall meeting and ate Bun cha.

5. Olympic Glory

Shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh brought 1st Olympic golden medalist for Vietnam. Besides, Weightlifter Le Van Cong won Vietnam’s first Paralympic golden medalist. Furthermore, 2016 saw Vietnam won a ticket to the 2017 U20 Football Worldcup.

The Mekong delta was hit by a historic drought and saltwater intrusion. Then floods ravaged central provinces. Extreme events left huge losses in their wake.
